SKIING IN THE SCANDINAVIAN ALPS
Hemsedal has a unique alpine feeling with high peaked mountains framing the little village. Here you find amazing skiing and miles of groomed slopes winding down from the three summits surrounding the ski resort.
Hemsedal is perfect for families and groups, travelling with skiers and snowboarders of different experience levels, whether beginners, intermediate or experts.
Here you can choose the difficulty that suits your skills, whether you prefer wide and easy slopes, snowparks, off-piste skiing, moguls or steep and challenging slopes. Hemsedal’ s longest ski run is 6 km and graded green (easy), starting at 1450 meters above sea level and ending at the Hemsedal Alpin Lodge afters a 810 meters decent.
Hemsedal offers excellent off-piste skiing that is easily accessible from the lift and the groomed slopes. English speaking off piste guides are available for skiers wanting to explore more of the mountain.
Hemsedal has three snow parks with a good variety of jumps and jib elements. The parks are ranging from beginner to expert and are popular among some of Norway’s best snowboarders and jib skiers. Hemsedal has a ski cross arena open to all guests, and a giant slalom arena with timer, where you can compete against friends and family, or you own time.
The large children’s ski area is located at the base of the ski resort with easy to handle ski lifts, gentle slopes, ski school and activities for children. Hemsedal also offers day care for small children (6 months – 8 years), conveniently located ski in/ski out.
Resort
Hemsedal is surrounded by high mountains and impressive natural setting, between the two major sites Oslo and Bergen in Norway. Mountaineering enthusiasts travel to Hemsedal all year round, but the main season is the winter months with the alpine skiing drawing the crowds.
For several years Hemsedal has been crowned Norway’s best ski resort with the combination of a wide range of skiing options for all levels, and an unbeatable nightlife, as important factors.
Night life
Hemsedal has several great restaurants, located close to the ski lift area and in Hemsedal village. The cosy bars gets lively during weekends and holidays, and offers one off Europe’s best after ski scene.
Shopping
Hemsedal’s main business is ski tourism and the local shopping reflects on this with numerous sports shops offering clothing and equipment for skiing and outdoor activities. Hemsedal also have several grocery stores, liquor store and shops selling fashion, gift and home accessories.
Ski shool and ski rental
The ski school in Hemsedal is large and professional, offering group lessons and private lessons for both beginners and expert skiers. The ski school is open for children from 3-years and older, and all instructors speak English. Hemsedal has several outlets for hiring equipment like alpine skis, snowboard and cross country skis.
Things to do
Alpine skiing and snowboarding is the main attraction for most of the guest visiting Hemsedal, but the valley also offers fun winter activities off the groomed slopes.

Hemsedal has a numerous apartments and cabins to choose from. Most of the accommodation is located close to the slopes and lifts. Hemsedal is also known for the excellent large cabins for rent, perfect for groups and large families travelling together.

Getting there
Hemsedal is located between Norway’s to largest cities, Oslo and Bergen. You can travel fast and easy to Hemsedal by charter with direct flight from London to Fagernes Airport Leirin and a one hour shuttle to Hemsedal. Another option is flight to Oslo Lufthavn Gardemoen and airport transfer bus to Hemsedal on Friday or Sunday. It is also possible to rent a car. The drive from Oslo Lufthavn Gardemoen is approximately 3 hours.
